Marion Utilities’ internship program offers students a fully customizable experience to better understand everything we do… from treating water to communicating with our customers. Our goal is to provide an environment where students can discover, inquire, and refine their educational and career goals.
Summer Grounds Crew
For students pursuing any level of education who are interested in grounds-keeping and minor maintenance jobs around the plant. The exact duration of commitment is flexible anywhere from Memorial Day to Labor Day. This is a paid opportunity, eligible for 38 hours per week.
Vocational Survey Track
For high school or college students desiring to understand more about the hands-on aspect of work at the Utility. Students will be given an opportunity to spend up to 8 weeks in a choice of at least 4 work crews over the course of two standard semesters. This is a paid opportunity, eligible for 20 hours per week, and can be customized to meet work/study requirements for academic credit.
College Specialty Track
For students who have completed at least one year of college and have a major/minor related to any of the professional disciplines represented at the Utility, such as Environmental Science, Engineering, Chemistry, Biology, Accounting, Marketing/Communications, IT, etc. The time frame is limited to one academic term (either one standard semester or summer). This is a paid opportunity, eligible for 38 hours per week, and can be customized to meet internship requirements for academic credit.
Job Shadowing
For students pursuing any level of education who are interested in a day-in-the-life of a Utility worker experience. The time frame is based on scheduling availability. This is NOT a paid opportunity, and additional permission may be necessary for younger students.
